When is the best time to visit La Ventana, Baja California Sur? It depends on what you come for: wind, calm water or a quiet table. Here is how the year feels from our house in El Sargento.

Quick answer

The wind season runs roughly from November through April. It is the best time for kitesurfing and wingfoiling, and also the liveliest and busiest time of year in La Ventana and El Sargento. Outside those months the wind drops, the water is calmer and the pace slows down.

November to April: the wind season

From about November through April, steady northern winds arrive on this stretch of the Sea of Cortez. That is what made La Ventana known around the world: kitesurfers and wingfoilers travel here every year for those months.

For visitors, it means the town is at its most active. Beaches fill with color in the late morning, schools are working and evenings are social. It is also when rooms and restaurant tables book out first.

If you do not kite: is the season still for you?

Yes. Many people come during the wind season without ever touching a board. Mornings can be calm, sunsets are a daily event and the region is easy to explore by car. You simply share the town with people who came for the water.

If you want to try kitesurfing for the first time, private lessons are offered by LVKC, our local partner. We can point you toward them when you write.

Outside the wind season

When the wind drops, the Sea of Cortez becomes calmer and the coastline feels quieter. It is a different La Ventana: slower, more local and good for travelers who want rest more than activity.

Before you travel in these months, write to us to confirm which services at Casa Xolo are open on your dates. The restaurant works by season, so we prefer to confirm directly rather than promise.

How to choose your dates

Ask yourself one question: are you coming for the wind or for the place? If it is the wind, aim for November to April and book early. If it is rest, good food and the landscape, consider the edges of the season, when the town is still alive but less full.

Either way, the simplest way to plan is a WhatsApp message with your dates. We answer personally.
